My colleague Deborah is on annual leave. Not groundbreaking news for you reading this I know, however this fact fills me with both excitement and dread. As for the next week or so I'm managing the reception of 38 Devonshire Street Dental Practice. Now on the eve of this daunting week ahead I realise just how pivotal the receptionist is in a dental practice and how having the right person in this role is just as important.
Last Saturday a group of women from the dental industry including our very own Seminars@thirtyeight director Gaynor Barrett and 38 Devonshire Street dental nurses Ruby Bhachu and Mary Lupton joined The Running Dental Devils group at this year's Race For Life in Finsbury Park. I joined these amazing ladies myself, firstly to capture the fun of the day but secondly in my role as 'Official Bag Man'!
Many of us are doing more and more on-line marketing and as a result this is generating many more email enquiries, yet on average many practices have a far lower conversion rate on email enquiries in comparison to telephone calls. Many do not even track email enquiries.
CPD Courses and industry events are a great way to network. Building existing relationships and for creating new ones. However, don't be shy about talking about yourself or where you are from!
Imagine how I felt whilst in Edinburgh this weekend when I received a text, from the airline I was due to fly home with, telling me that my flight the next day had been cancelled! Not happy would be bit of an understatement!
In the January issue of PPD Magazine Dr Gaynor Barrett, principle dentist of 38 Devonshire Street and director of Seminars@thirtyeight, was featured in the 'One Minute With...' article. Just in case you missed it you can read the full article online here.
Since Seminars@thirtyeight started just over a year ago we are very proud that our venue has been used by a varied range of groups and companies for their own private events. As well as the usual meeting and training events you would expect the space has also been used for Art Exhibitions, Theatre Readings and now we can add Film Premiers to our list.
Following the massive success of our Alexandr Onishenko exhibition held at the RIBA in May 2009 we are very excited to let you know about the return visit of Alexandr to 38 Devonshire Street on Friday 2nd and Saturday the 3rd of December.
90 minutes, 45 degrees Celsius, 26 strenuous postures and oh the sweat, rivers of sweat... sound appealing?
Why would you do that to yourself?
Last Friday Gaynor and I were delighted to be joined by the great and the good of dentistry when we hosted the September Dental Tweet-Up as part of our 1st birthday celebrations.
Following weeks of promotion and invites being sent out on Facebook and Twitter the champagne was perfectly chilled and Gaynor, myself and the team at 38 Devonshire Street eagerly awaited our guests arrival. And what a guest list it was, everyone dressed to impress and we were overjoyed at the distance some had travelled to join us... one guest had come all the way from Frankfurt for the evening!
